SURF Research Support Champions are professionals who go above and beyond to support research within their institution. They assist researchers in areas such as research data management, IT, and open science. Think of data stewards, IT professionals, librarians, and research assistants. Their work ranges from storing, managing, archiving, and sharing research data to software development and advising on research applications.

Our jury selects a Research Support Champion winner in three sectors:

Universities of applied sciences
Universities
University medical centers & research institutes

Nominate a colleague!

Do you know a colleague who deserves recognition for their dedication? Someone who is always available to answer questions about data management? Who has created a user-friendly intranet page with all relevant research information? Who has explained the importance of FAIR data or accelerated your research by pointing you to useful tools? A strong advocate for open data or a designer of practical research-related flyers?

Rules

Anyone, regardless of their role, can nominate one or more individuals—including colleagues from other institutions or themselves.
The champion must be an individual; teams cannot be nominated.
A jury will assess all nominations based on the responses in the nomination form. Make sure your submission is as complete as possible and include relevant links.
Nominees will receive a message from SURF and must approve their nomination.
Deadline for nominations: March 20, 2025.

Why the Research Support Champion Awards?

When conducting research, we are becoming increasingly dependent on information technology and all the software and hardware involved. Support in the field of research data management, IT and open science plays a major role in this, because good research cannot be achieved without good support.

SURF annually presents the Research Champion Awards to give innovators of research support a platform to increase their impact and reach, and to inspire others.
