AI in education

But there are also concerns. AI may raise questions about our public standards and what skills we want students to learn. It may even reinforce biases in our education system and increase inequality between students.
What is SURF doing?
To answer these questions, we need technical knowledge and a good understanding of how schools and their staff work. Fortunately, we collaborate with many organisations, both nationally and internationally, and have our own AI in Education community. At SURF, we carry out several projects, such as testing how AI can be used responsibly in education. We also organise events to discuss these issues and provide inclusive discussions in the field. And we also offer targeted advice on the best approach.

AI Act in short
The AI Act, also known as the AI Regulation, consists of rules for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the European Union (EU). As an educational institution, you come into contact with AI systems. Perhaps because you develop them yourself or because they are used within your organisation. In either case, the AI regulation may be applicable.
This document, a collaboration between Npuls and SURF, sets out the AI Act and describes the terms used in the AI Act. It provides a first insight into the AI Regulation. It is not a complete overview. Do you have comments or questions about it? Please email ai-act@surf.nl or ask them in the AI vraagbaak.
