SURF is the ICT cooperative of Dutch education and research institutions. The members, the owners of SURF, join forces to develop or procure the best possible digital services, work together on complex innovation issues and develop and share knowledge with each other.

2023

In 2023, SURF launched the SURF Vendor Compliance service and our compliance approach received international attention in a publication in the New York Times. We also released the Tech Trends report and started a pilot for Mastodon.

In 2022, the National Growth Fund allocated 560 million euros and SURF launched the SURFeduhub service. We also made changes to privacy agreements for Zoom.

2021

Every year, SURF and its members ensure good and innovative ict for education and research. In 2021, we launched the SURF Strategy 2022-2027 and powered up supercomputer Snellius. We also concluded some important contracts and DPIAs with big tech.

2020

The efforts of SURF and our members led to a large number of results and innovations in 2020. Sometimes very visible and concrete, sometimes a bit more behind the scenes. All results contributed to our common goal: top education and top research

2019

2019 was a special year for SURF, in which major and essential changes were announced and initiated. Together with the members, the foundation was laid for a closer SURF.

2018

In 2018, SURF worked on the six result areas: connected world, accessible access, trusted environment, data management, enriched technology, and transparent and legitimate relationship. The main results are in the annual report and the more public-friendly annual review.

2017

The board's focus in SURF's 30th anniversary year was on intensifying cooperation. Inside and outside SURF. In addition, 2017 saw the launch of the SURF Open Innovation Lab, which contributes to the innovative power and knowledge position of SURF and its target groups/stakeholders.
