About SURF
SURF is the ICT cooperative of Dutch education and research institutions. The members, the owners of SURF, join forces to develop or procure the best possible digital services, work together on complex innovation issues and develop and share knowledge with each other.
Our views
Within our cooperative, we stand for safe, reliable and accessible IT facilities for education and research. To achieve this, we are in constant dialogue with ministries and MPs. This way, we discuss how we can continue to offer the best facilities in the Netherlands in the future. Below is an overview of current topics we are working on. The downloads are only available in Dutch.
Elections input
Directing the digital transition, SURF's input for the 2023 elections.
Intercontinental connectivity
Since the emergence of the Internet, the Netherlands has developed into one of the world's most important digital mainports. From video calling and Internet shopping to data processing from the particle accelerator in Geneva, the Netherlands acts as a data hub for the entire world. This position is important for our national earning power and heavily dependent on the landing of intercontinental sea cables
Cybersecurity
IT facilities have become an essential prerequisite for teaching and research. Any disruption in availability or reliability has a direct impact on work or study. Stored data, such as research data and student grades, and the availability of research tools and digital learning resources must be trusted. Working together on cybersecurity and the resilience of the entire sector is therefore necessary for the smooth and reliable functioning of education and research in the Netherlands and worldwide.
