What you need to know about... Mastodon
Public Values Programme Manager at SURF Wladimir Mufty talks you through Mastodon in 15 minutes.
Social media channels, such as Twitter and Tiktok, are owned by commercial parties. These parties determine what is and is not allowed, what messages users see in their timeline, as well as what data is collected from users. This is vulnerable for users and not always in line with their own values. There is an alternative; Mastodon. On Mastodon, things work differently. There, control is decentralised, which leaves a lot of room for setting up the platform based on what you yourself find important.
