Researchers can apply for new computing time through NWO and SURF

Do you need computing power for complex, data-intensive research challenges that exceed the capabilities of your own institution? Since 1 January 2025, new computing time has been available on the supercomputers Snellius and LUMI.

Through the new computing time call, computing time and data storage can be requested on the computer systems: Snellius supercomputer, Data Processing (Grid/Spider), Cloud Research Consultancy en HPC Cloud (via SURF Research Cloud). In addition, Europe's supercomputer LUMI is also part of this call. Applications can be submitted continuously via NWO and SURF.

Upgrade and expansion of national computing power

In the summer of 2024, Snellius received an upgrade, more than doubling the performance of the Netherlands' most powerful supercomputer from 15 Pflop/s to nearly 38 Pflop/s. In the same year, the Netherlands also gained access to capacity on LUMI, Europe's most powerful supercomputer.

In 2024, 1,017 small computing time applications were submitted to SURF, and 47 large applications to NWO. Thanks to these applications, Snellius and LUMI played a crucial role in Dutch research.

Accelerate your research

With the computing power of Snellius and LUMI, you can run large-scale simulations, train AI models, and accelerate complex data analyses. Contribute to groundbreaking scientific research by using the most powerful supercomputers in the Netherlands and Europe.
