One year of Publinova: this is how we build practice-based research together

At the end of 2023, we launched Publinova.nl, the national platform that makes practice-based research visible and accessible. Now, one year later, together with universities of applied sciences, the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences and Regieorgaan SIA, we look back at what we have achieved, and look ahead to what is yet to come.

Publinova.co.uk allows universities of applied sciences, researchers and collaborations to share, exploit and make visible practice-oriented research. Thanks to the trust of universities of applied sciences, we can continue to work towards a future in which practice-based research plays a major role.

2024: a year of connection and innovation

In cooperation with the Dutch universities of applied sciences, we achieved in 2024 that Publinova is supported by all universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands; thirteen universities of applied sciences joined and fourteen others are currently in the connection process. Thanks to this development and the core funding from SURF, we can continue to grow.

We also worked on innovation and visibility. We have made the website more user-friendly, including through mobile-friendly web design and a more accessible interface, and improved processes. To generate more attention for practice-based research, Publinova has become active on LinkedIn and Mastodon. In the short term, we will realise an improved, even more accessible interface.

Ambitions for 2025: growing along with developments

Publinova is growing along with developments in higher education and research. Therefore, we have the following goals for 2025:

  • We aim for 80 per cent of universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands to be connected.
  • Cross-institutional networks, such as Centres of Expertise, will receive more attention on the platform.
  • Intensive cooperation with Regieorgaan SIA, so that Publinova is integrated into the national communication strategy for applied research.
  • We will develop methods to measure and report on the use and value of Publinova.
