Visualisations make data attractive and understandable and provide new inspiration for further research
Understanding your datasets
Often, numerical analysis of data does not provide enough insight into your research data. Visualisation gives an instant picture of the results. This allows you to investigate striking phenomena in your data and check the accuracy of the results. You can also present the results in an insightful and attractive way.
Support with data visualisation
We support you in using various interesting visualisation options, such as 2D geographic data, visualisation of large networks or interactive visualisation in a Jupyter notebook. You can also count on us for help with virtual and augmented reality. We develop specific software for all these applications.
Powerful remote 3D visualisation
More and more researchers use parallel high-performance computing (HPC) systems, such as the supercomputer Snellius. These systems often produce very large data files. Your own laptop or PC is usually not powerful enough to visualise this kind of data. For interactive visualisation of large 3D datasets, you can use our remote visualisation service. Here, your visualisation application runs on one of our HPC systems instead of on your own desktop.
This has several advantages:
- You don't have to send the data to your own computer, they remain on our systems. Only the resulting visualisations are viewed - interactively - on your own desktop.
- In some cases, you can use a large number of nodes and GPUs, allowing you to visualise very large datasets. Much larger than is possible with a PC or laptop.
- We manage and optimise various software packages for visualisation, so you don't have to spend time on that.
Support and advice
We support you in using our systems and the associated software:
- You can consult online manuals in our user documentation, including suggestions for improved performance.
- We provide customised advice on developing and integrating specific visualisation methods and applications, or on large-scale parallel visualisations.
- We regularly provide training courses on visualising research data. View the current offer in the agenda.
